I'm a big fan of what Obama said - "we can disagree without being disagreeable." We don't all have to like each other, but having some mutual respect is a must. If your friends/family can't even be polite to your girl (and vice versa), you're the one who's gonna lose in the long run!

"Never let her talk down on your friends and family. If she doesn’t respect them, how can she respect you?"

Do you mean to, or about? It's one thing if you mean to but sometimes your friends and family can suck and I think it's important to be able to have open dialog with your potential partner.

This was a cool article.

Then you know how I feel when I look at your site - "I wish I'd made this" :). You're right; one of my friends describes a good man as a "brick in a pillow." Soft on the outside; hard as concrete if you squeeze too hard. There's no need to be tense all the time, but having a strong sense of identity means you automatically stand up for yourself when necessary.

Thanks for commenting, brother!

Those bullets are flawless George, one of my favorite pieces you've done. I kind of wish I wrote this post haha.

Mutual respect and setting boundaries are so important. You have to become sure of what you want and who you are at the core and you'll know how to handle most situations. You'll naturally lead more, not let yourself get walked over, and stand your ground when necessary.

Keep the great advice coming :)

When I was younger, I (erroneously) thought that a woman would be the solution to all my problems. In my first relationship, I invested myself very deeply because she was all I really had at that point. I wish I'd heard your advice earlier - instead, I learned first-hand that with no direction, no goals, it's nigh-impossible to be a good boyfriend or husband!

Thank you for sharing.

Here is a real life lesson that I had to learn the hard way, "First you have to be a man for yourself." Have some goals, have a direction. It is easier to lead if you have a course laid out.
